Detailed information from the catalog of new energy vehicle (NEV) models, exempted from vehicle purchase tax by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on December 12, discloses key specifications. The 73.6-kWh battery pack, weighing 579 kilograms, offers a commendable energy density of around 127 Wh/kg. In turn, the SU7 equipped with this pack provides CLTC range options of 628 kilometers and 668 kilometers.

On the other hand, the 101-kWh battery pack, weighing 645.8 kg with an energy density of approximately 156 Wh/kg, enables the Xiaomi SU7 to achieve an impressive range of 750 km and 800 km.

While the catalog doesn’t explicitly mention the suppliers for these battery packs, a previous regulatory filing indicated that BYD supplies the 73.6 kWh pack, and CATL is the provider for the 101 kWh pack.

Xiaomi’s debut EV, featuring three main options – SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max – is set to enter the market soon. The SU7, powered by BYD’s lithium iron phosphate batteries, includes a single electric motor, while the Pro and Max variants, powered by CATL’s lithium ternary-ion batteries, boast dual motors.

The Xiaomi SU7 stands out as a mid-to-large-sized sedan, surpassing the dimensions of Tesla’s Model 3 and Nio’s ET5. The vehicle, measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,440/1,455 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, positions itself for a competitive edge.

The inclusion of Xiaomi SU7 in the vehicle purchase tax exemption catalog signals its imminent official launch. Although initial rumors suggested a launch event on December 28, official confirmation is pending. Xiaomi, not stopping with the SU7, reportedly plans to unveil two additional models, codenamed Lemang (a battery electric vehicle) and Kunlun (a hybrid), following the official launch of its first model, codenamed Modenat, slated for next year.
